Psychologists, Social Workers and other mental health professionals, are often told to “give psychology away” to the general public, build a practice niche by developing expert presentations on your specialty area, to speak out on social justice issues, to “outreach” to other health professionals, to work as “consultants” in a variety of settings. What is not usually included in this advice is that all these activities involve one essential skill – public speaking. The key to taking advantage of all these career and practice building opportunities is to build your skill in public speaking; Ed Barks is a communications training consultant who has devoted his career to doing just that.
This workshop will be an introduction to a systematic approach to developing public speaking skills, and will feature a mix of talk, video clips, small group practice and Q & A opportunities.
About the Speakers:
Edward Barks has guided thousands of today’s business, association, scientific and entertainment leaders to more dynamic presentations. A veteran of the Washington, DC public relations scene, he perfected his own talents during a decade long tenure as a radio broadcaster. He is the author of a comprehensive guide, “The Truth About Public Speaking: Three Keys to Great Presentations,” as well as numerous other training materials.
Workshop Objectives: At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
"The District of Columbia Psychological Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The District of Columbia Psychological Association maintains responsibility for this program and its content."
"This course has been approved by the National Association of Social Workers, DC Metro Chapter for 3.0 contact hours of continuing education credit. Approval Code: 2017015"
