Douglas LaBier, Ph.D.
Modern Madness: The Hidden Link Between Work and Emotional Conflict, now back in print and available here.
Dr. LaBier is a business psychologist and psychotherapist, and a long-time member of the DC Psychological Association. He will also discuss his more recent work and writing, which concerns a new view of mental health relevant to today’s era, whose challenges have been largely unrecognized by the mental health field and absent from the goals of psychotherapy.
He will explain that the impact of heightened worldwide interdependence, fueled by technology/communication and globalization, points to a revised view of a psychologically healthy life in individual relationships, careers, and in society at large.
He will describe the growing convergence between new empirical knowledge about successful, sustaining intimate relationships, careers and business; and ancient perspectives from spiritual and philosophical teachings. This seemingly odd convergence points to the sources of individual and societal well being in our current era of unpredictable change, disequilibrium and insecurity.
Dr. LaBier is Director of the Center for Progressive Development in Washington; a Clinical Supervisor in the Professional Psychology Program of George Washington University, and writes frequently for the Washington Post, The Huffington Post and Psychology Today. He’s currently working on a new book project about the above themes.
